We’re All In… The Pool for Wicklow Community Games Swimming Finals

Arklow played host to a vibrant display of young athletic talent on April 19th, 2026, as the Wicklow Community Games Swimming Finals brought together competitors from across the county. The event showcased impressive performances across multiple age groups and swimming disciplines, highlighting the depth of emerging talent in local communities.
In the older girls’ freestyle category (U16 & O14), Robyn Molloy of Enniskerry secured first place with a strong swim, setting the tone for a competitive day in the pool. Meanwhile, the younger girls’ freestyle (U12 & O10) saw Laura Hayes from Aughrim-Annacurra take gold, followed by Freya Coughlan (Lakeside) and Doireann Byrne (Westside).
The boys’ events were equally competitive. Benjamin Barry of Ashford-Glenealy claimed victory in the U16 & O14 freestyle, while Douglas Barry, also representing Ashford-Glenealy, topped the podium in the U12 & O10 category. Enniskerry swimmers also made their mark, with Howard Maguire and Ruadh O’Connor finishing among the top competitors.
In butterfly events, Georgia Coughlan (Lakeside) and Edan Morris (Enniskerry) delivered standout performances to win their respective girls’ and boys’ races. Breaststroke events saw further success for the Ashford-Glenealy area, with Alia Harris and Joshua Barry both taking first place in their age groups.
Younger swimmers also impressed in the pool. Jazmine Elvie Quintin from Arklow secured victory in the U12 & O10 girls’ breaststroke, while Ryanne Shortt (Westside) and Pippa Hayes (Aughrim-Annacurra) triumphed in backstroke events. In the youngest freestyle races, Olivia Barry (Ashford-Glenealy) and John Maguire (Enniskerry) emerged as winners, with strong competition close behind.
Across all events, swimmers representing areas including Enniskerry, Ashford-Glenealy, Lakeside, Westside, Aughrim-Annacurra, and Arklow featured prominently, reflecting a broad spread of talent across Wicklow.
The event not only celebrated individual achievements but also highlighted the importance of community sport in fostering young athletes. With such promising performances on display, Wicklow’s future in competitive swimming looks bright.
